Summary

Jack Skellington is the Pumpkin King, the ruler of Halloween Town and master of all things creepy and spooky。 But he's tired of his life in the shadows and longs for something new。 When he accidentally stumbles upon Christmas Town, he decides this is the perfect chance to try his hand at a brand new holiday and is convinced he'll have the world yelling "Scary Christmas"! With the young patchwork doll Sally trying to dissuade him and the evil Oogie Boogie waiting in the wings to take over Halloween Town in Jack's absence, he'd better hurry if he wants to get his plan in place by December 25th!

This is one of my favorite stories and I love that this is in Manga format!! The artwork is fantastic and the story is definitely worth re-reading in this format!

I feel like the author could have contributed a little more to the story than was already there。 More insight into Sally, I think, would have been great。 But there wasn’t much there。 Still, this is my favorite holiday movie, and I love the story。

Fun Halloween read!

Super enjoyable。 I wasn't expecting an exact rehashing of the movie, but it was delightful all the same, the art unexpectedly bright and clear when I was worried they'd go for a harsh scratchy look。 And it turned pages to the left! I’m a big fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas, so I wanted to try this manga。 It’s a condensed version of the movie。 The art is cute but I prefer the movie version。 I’m glad I borrowed this from the library instead of purchasing it。

Beak

Pretty much the movie but in a shortened book form。 Wasn’t bad。 Seemed rushed though。

Can't go wrong with Jack and SallyI'm a huge Nightmare before Christmas fan, so of course I had to dip my toes in Manga and read this story。 One of my all time favorites。 Can't go wrong with Jack and SallyI'm a huge Nightmare before Christmas fan, so of course I had to dip my toes in Manga and read this story。 One of my all time favorites。 。。。more

I'm priming myself for a new YA that's coming out in the vein of The Nightmare Before Christmas and since I've never watched the movie, I started with the picture book and this manga and will now watch the movie and then read the new book that's coming out with enough information and ahead of both Halloween and Christmas to get into the mood to absorb what I've clearly been missing。。。 and now I know who oogie boogie is! I was heavily underwhelmed by this manga adaptation of Nightmare Before Christmas。 The text was all over the place, time jumps were poorly executed, some of the characters are drawn out of Tim Burton’s style in some panels but in it in others which makes little sense, some sections seemed like they were out of order, etc。 Even as someone who is familiar with both manga and Nightmare Before Christmas, it was confusing。 This all just seems like a lazy money grab from Disney (I know all adaptations I was heavily underwhelmed by this manga adaptation of Nightmare Before Christmas。 The text was all over the place, time jumps were poorly executed, some of the characters are drawn out of Tim Burton’s style in some panels but in it in others which makes little sense, some sections seemed like they were out of order, etc。 Even as someone who is familiar with both manga and Nightmare Before Christmas, it was confusing。 This all just seems like a lazy money grab from Disney (I know all adaptations kind of are, but this one seemed like zero effort was put into it)。 Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley。 I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own。 Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy。 。。。more

To see more reviews check out MI Book Reviews。I got an ARC in return for an honest review on NetGalley。I am not a big fan of the movie, never really saw the appeal。 My boyfriend is a huge fanatic to the point of multiple massive tattoos and that is just the small stuff。 So I thought I would give it a shot as a book。 I much prefer books to movies after all。 I still wasn’t impressed。 The book literally had a different font for when the characters were singing, but it was never addressed that they To see more reviews check out MI Book Reviews。I got an ARC in return for an honest review on NetGalley。I am not a big fan of the movie, never really saw the appeal。 My boyfriend is a huge fanatic to the point of multiple massive tattoos and that is just the small stuff。 So I thought I would give it a shot as a book。 I much prefer books to movies after all。 I still wasn’t impressed。 The book literally had a different font for when the characters were singing, but it was never addressed that they were。 It felt like a lazy adaption。 I wanted a manga, I got an adaption that rivals Adam & Steve for badly executed (the book literally referenced a famous drag queen coming on stage by her name and it was pretty awful)。 I just expected more from Tokyopop。The art was consistent and well done。 There was nothing technically wrong with the book, but it just wasn’t exciting。 It is hard to bring the fun of a musical to a written work。 I did like that there was more Sally than I remember in the movie though。 she is the only real character that made sense throughout the movie。The book isn’t bad and it is a great way to get a young reader into manga in a very safe and easy way。 Give it a shot, but it didn’t do anything for me。 。。。more

Beckie Pearce

My most favourite movie ever ❤️so glad I own it in manga form 🥳

Hunter

A fun, quick seasonal read。 I’ve gotta admit I missed the claymation。

Mediocre plot summary。The story was written weird。。。 The artwork was beautiful though。 I didn't like the strange switches between small shorts of the well known songs from the movie, then a rephrasing of the following lyrics in non-song form。 Mediocre plot summary。The story was written weird。。。 The artwork was beautiful though。 I didn't like the strange switches between small shorts of the well known songs from the movie, then a rephrasing of the following lyrics in non-song form。 。。。more

This doesn't add anything to the original story, and the lack of music (and lyrics) really does change the experience。 I will say though that I like the art style and feel an overwhelming need to color in the whole thing。 This was my first experience with a manga, and I'm glad I started with a story I already know well while trying to get used to reading right-to-left。 This doesn't add anything to the original story, and the lack of music (and lyrics) really does change the experience。 I will say though that I like the art style and feel an overwhelming need to color in the whole thing。 This was my first experience with a manga, and I'm glad I started with a story I already know well while trying to get used to reading right-to-left。 。。。more
